Hey, I’m Dr. Lane!

Welcome!

My name is Lane Schwager, and I hold a PhD in Communication Studies from George Mason University. Part of what drew me to COMM Studies as a student was the interdisciplinary nature of the field. Whether we are looking at psychology, anthropology, or ethnic studies, COMM pulls from diverse schools of thought. This results in a dynamic classroom environment where faculty can tailor communication courses to bring in multiple support beams from across the academic disciplines.

In 2025, I had the opportunity to complete a faculty fellowship at Montgomery College’s Paul Peck Humanities Institution with the Smithsonian Museum. During this year-long fellowship, my cohort and I met with Smithsonian educators, curators, and researchers to learn more about how to bring object-based learning and museum spaces into our classrooms.

This little project you’ve stumbled on is a reflection of that work, and I am glad you are here. Please explore and take use of any of the resources and suggestions you may see here.

Toodaloo,

Dr. Lane
